Everything you need to know before your visit.
Living trees should be planted in loose, well-drained soil. Avoid low, wet areas that don't dry out quickly after heavy rain.
Dig a hole at least 12 inches larger than the root ball diameter and position the tree only 1–2 inches deeper than its original depth. Remove the metal basket and twine from around the trunk before planting.
Once the tree is in the hole and partially filled with soil, add about 5 gallons of water, then fill with the remaining soil. Apply approximately 2 inches of loose mulch around the base to suppress weeds.
Stake newly planted trees for two years for support. Space trees at least 15 feet apart in all directions and at least 20 feet away from buildings.
Water weekly during dry periods — a large pail with a small drainage hole works well. Each spring, apply a multi-purpose fertilizer formulated for conifers. We're happy to answer any questions about tree care!
